Expo.02: Arteplage Yverdon Les Bains

Donny and Roman at the Expo.02

Signalschmerz (Pains from Different Signal)

These few hundred rubber-like tubes are a representation of Nerves. Nerves that carry thousands and millions of signals from our mind to all parts of our body. When one make the first entry, its gives sort of a disoriented feeling or even dissiness. Only after a few minutes can one have the sense of orientaton feeling back. As we have read about the exhibition during our long queuing, we moved towards the lighted tubes that explaining different pains of signaling. Unfortunately, there was only 3 languages available, no English! :-(

Die Wolke (Symbolic Feature: The Clouds)

Symbolic feature of Yverdon Arteplage is this cloud-like making structure. Regardless whether there is rain or sunshine, it was one of the hot topic for the visitors during summer.
From thousands of small little holes, the lake water is being pumped up and sprinkle out. The little waterdroplets are so light and small, they are able to float in the air. Making the cloud effect. <g>

Of course the most ideal would be a day without wind, we had bad luck with the wind because the "cloud" is blowing into us, rather than up or away to let us see the effect better. The Arteplage was actually covered with the "clouds"...

Oui! - Yes! for 24 hours

Basically, we wanted to get "married" for 24 hours. This is what the exhibition wants to showcase. Friends or even strangers, regardless of race, sex, age, are allowed in. Absolutely no, biasness... :-) Since its now approved by the swiss people for gay "marriage", we wanted to try out for a day. However, the whole experience includes a pre-marriage course where one have to sit in a room with a glass window, so that everyone can see. Well, i was up to it, why care about what others think, but Roman was just too shy to sit in the room with glass window. (shopping centre window display)

Wer bin ich? - Who am I?

To this poetic question stands a big cube in Yverdon. The exterior looks as if its was taken up from the ground in spring, with only a bit of grass and layers of soils.

Somehow, the long queue and the projected timing of more than 30 minutes makes one feel that there is something really worth seeing, ja? :-)

Well, there is always special street performance to entertain people while they are queuing, but this time, one can advance without queuing when you dare to stand in front of the crowd and sing, you get immediate entry. (Just like how the family decided to do) By then we are convinced that its worth seeing!

As usual we are so disappointed! Its just a room filled with lying sofas, so that you can see what is projected on the ceiling. A bit of water to create the comfortable ambience. The ceiling is fitted with a few powerful cameras to capture the image of the person lying on the sofa. Within seconds, you see your own image blown up on the ceiling, EVERYONE sees you :-) Besides being able to see yourself on the ceiling, the question of Who am i? is not justified at all, mind you, i see myself every morning in the mirror... unfortunately its too dark for any pictures to be taken.

Garden of Eden

Ok, It was tuesday but still with so much people. We have to wait for almost an hour just to see this exhibition.
If one have to wait for such a long time, one might come up with creative ideas to make some funny pictures through the mirror. The funny thing was the other people also in the queue, somehow, we wanted them to join in and smile but they are not convinced... :-)

The Summer is over - so is the Expo02...

Yverdon les Bain was our last Arteplage. After a "not so interesting" start in Neuchâtel, a very positive and fulfilling day in Biel and the total different atmosphere in Murten, the long waiting queue in Yverdon was a bit too much.
Somehow the exhibitions in Yverdon was lacking a lot in substance or that powerful "humpf". SwissLove was the only interesting exhibition of being able to choose 4 different films to watch but the 4 stories have the same ending. Unfortunately, we were too busy catching the shows and didn`t take any pictures. The Circuit - Sports and Le premier Regard - Perceptions were also big disappointments. Onoma - Names was the only exhibition we gave up, its about the knowing where or how does names of places come about. Waiting for more than 45 minutes wasn`t worth it.

The only memorable thing was the beautiful autummn day and the special "cloud" making structure.
Oh yes, our dinner in the train, a oven-baked half chicken... <grin>
